High-Performance Multiscreen Gateway is Powered by Zenverge’s
ZN200 Quad Stream Advanced Content Networking IC and MaxLinear’s MxL254
Receiver
AMSTERDAM--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 6, 2012--
MaxLinear, Inc. (NYSE:MXL), a leading provider of integrated radio
frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for broadband
communication applications, today announced that it has teamed up with
Zenverge, Inc., a leading developer of advanced content networking ICs,
to create a highly integrated four-channel cable-to-IP video gateway
capable of streaming high-quality video content to tablet and smartphone
devices. The next-generation gateway platform leverages Zenverge’s ZN200
quad stream content networking IC and MaxLinear’s MxL254 Full-Spectrum
Capture™ (FSC™) front-end cable receiver to provide cable operators with
a high-performance, cost-effective solution that expands their
multiscreen service offering beyond the traditional set-top box.
“Consumer demand for high-quality multiscreen services continues to
increase at an astonishing pace, making it imperative for cable
operators to deliver a consistent viewing experience on every device,”
said Shawn Saleem, Executive Vice President of Marketing & Strategic
Planning, Zenverge. “Partnering with MaxLinear, we are able to provide
cable operators with a powerful cable-to-IP video gateway that supports
true HD viewing on a variety of IP-connected devices, including
smartphones and tablets. The ZN200 is the perfect solution for gateway
applications based on its ability to process multi-streams and deliver
superior video to any viewing platform.”
The new gateway powered by the ZN200 advanced content networking IC
features Zenverge’s industry-leading TransAll™ transcoding engine, a
robust H.264 video compression tool that delivers up to 1080p HD quality
video, compared with standard transcoding solutions that stream content
at reduced resolutions, while it also minimizes DDR storage. Utilizing
Zenverge TransFormat™, TransRate™ and TransScale™ functions, the gateway
can seamlessly convert broadcast cable content into formats supported by
tablets and smartphones, enabling cable subscribers to access
high-quality television content anywhere, anytime. The ZN200-integrated
gateway supports a wide range of adaptive bitrate formats, including
Apple® HLS streaming, and behaves as a Wi-Fi hotspot, further
increasing a cable operator’s ability to stream video content to many
different television viewers and devices with robust video quality of
service.
“MaxLinear’s FSC technology captures the full 1GHz cable spectrum,
providing industry leading channel tuning capacity for this gateway,”
said Brian Sprague, MaxLinear’s Vice President and General Manager for
Broadband and Consumer Products. “The MxL254 cable receiver is pure
digital CMOS technology, which contributes to its low power consumption
and small size, making it possible for this gateway to be as small and
low power as it is and still deliver quality multiscreen video services.”
The MaxLinear MxL254 is a four-channel digital cable front-end receiver
that includes on-chip QAM/DVB-C demodulators as well as integrated LNA
and signal conditioning functionalities. The 40nm digital CMOS device
uses MaxLinear’s Full-Spectrum Capture technology to obtain the full
1GHz cable spectrum. As a result, the MxL254 can simultaneously receive
any combination of four channels located arbitrarily in the cable
spectrum. In four-channel mode of operation, the MxL254 consumes only
1.65 Watts. The compact 7mm x 7mm QFN design features an output
interface consisting of four serial transport streams with a single MPEG
clock out.
Zenverge and MaxLinear will demonstrate their combined solution during
IBC2012 at the Holiday Inn hotel in Amsterdam, in the Lincoln and
Livingstone rooms, respectively. To schedule a private demonstration and
