MaxLinear 16- and 24-Channel Full Spectrum Capture Cable Tuner ICs Power Intel 1Gbps Cable Gateway Reference Designs

  • Reference designs include Intel® Puma™ 6 DOCSIS 3.0 SoC and MaxLinear’s MxL265 / MxL267 cable receivers
  • Reference designs utilize MaxLinear’s 1 GHz Full Spectrum Capture™ technology for high-capacity services supporting the industry’s “TV Everywhere” vision

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MaxLinear, Inc. (NYSE: MXL), a leading provider of integrated radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for broadband communications applications, today announced that its MxL265 / MxL267 Full Spectrum Capture™ 16- and 24-channel cable receivers are used in new DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway reference designs based on the Intel® Puma™ 6.

The announcement was made today at The Cable Show 2012 in Boston, where Intel is previewing the Intel Puma 6 for the first time. The MxL265 and MxL267 were announced in March and are now sampling. Several cable set-top box and gateway system manufacturers will also show products based on devices from the two companies.

“MaxLinear’s long-standing collaboration with Intel has resulted in several generations of advanced DOCSIS products on the market today. We’re glad to be working with Intel and the Intel® Puma™ 6 to help bring to market the next generation of these systems,” said Dr. Kishore Seendripu, MaxLinear President and CEO.

“With the Intel Puma 6 and our relationship with MaxLinear, Intel is able to help OEMs deliver products to service providers that offer exciting new high-bandwidth Internet, television, gaming, and application experiences to consumers,” said Ran Senderovitz, General Manager, Gateway Solutions, Intel Service Provider Division. “With our new technology, service providers will be able to serve more people with more bandwidth over their HFC networks, enabling new consumer experiences.”

The Intel Puma 6 is Intel’s newest gateway solution and achieves 1Gbps downstream speeds by bonding up to 24 DOCSIS channels. Intel Puma 6 has an upload speed that is double the speed of current-generation DOCSIS modems. With up to 240Mbps upstream (8 bonded channels), more consumers will be able to benefit from new services like video conferencing, cloud storage and easy sharing.

MaxLinear’s MxL265 and MxL267 feature Full Spectrum Capture (FSC™) technology that receives the full 1 Gigahertz (GHz) cable spectrum at once. FSC provides bandwidth deployment flexibility to cable operators so they can migrate to high-capacity DOCSIS 3.0 gateways and hybrid or IP-based set-top boxes (STBs). MaxLinear’s Full-Spectrum Capture technology reduces the number of tuners needed from several to just one, thereby reducing power consumption and occupying less space in the gateway or set-top box.
