MaxLinear and Cambridge Industries Group (CIG) Partner for Gigabit MoCA Home Networking Adapter

  • Cambridge Industries Group (CIG) develops gigabit MoCA-to-Ethernet adapter to address service provider needs for high-performance home networking

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MaxLinear Inc. (NYSE: MXL), a leading provider of radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for cable and satellite broadband communications, the connected home, data center, metro, long-haul fiber networks and wireless infrastructure, today announced that its MxL3707 gigabit MoCA 2.0™ bonded integrated circuit (IC) is being designed into CIG’s WF-802 Series HomeMesh™ MoCA-to-Ethernet adapter product-line. CIG is a leading global ODM / JDM vendor based in Shanghai with US headquarters in Santa Clara, CA.

Deployed by major service providers around the world, MoCA is the de-facto standard for operators needing a high-performance home network. Initially used for streaming video from a digital video recorder (DVR) or video gateway to client set-top boxes (STB), MoCA is now being used as a high-speed home network backbone to distribute broadband data around the home. With CIG’s gigabit MoCA adapter, the subscriber’s home coax cables can easily be turned into a highly reliable and fast wired home network.

By simply bridging traffic between a device’s Ethernet port and coax network, the CIG WF-802 Series MoCA adapter can be used to connect existing modems or routers to multiple Wi-Fi access points spread around the home to increase wireless coverage and performance. Other Ethernet-equipped devices like over-the-top (OTT) video systems, game consoles and SmartTVs can be connected to the network and benefit from MoCA’s high speeds and low latency.

“CIG has developed its WF-802 Series MoCA-to-Ethernet adapters in response to the needs of service providers. They require a home network that can reliably deliver gigabit or faster speeds,” said Ali Taslimi, EVP and Head of North America Sales and Marketing at CIG. “Our MoCA adapter is fundamental to enabling gigabit MoCA networks in homes that do not already use MoCA or can be used for extending existing service providers’ MoCA networks to other connected devices in the home.”

“We welcome CIG to our growing family of MoCA partners,” said Will Torgerson, MaxLinear Vice President & General Manager of the Broadband Group. “Service providers continue to press forward with higher broadband speeds to the home and CIG’s gigabit MoCA adapter is essential to solving the problem of getting all that speed around the home.”

MoCA-to-Ethernet Adapter Technical Details
MaxLinear’s MxL3707 bonded MoCA 2.0 integrated circuit (IC) is used in CIG’s MoCA-to-Ethernet adapter. The MxL3707 provides up to 1.2 Gbps of MAC throughput over a full 16-node network that consists of other MxL370x-enabled products. It is also interoperable with other silicon vendor ICs that comply with the MoCA 2.0 bonded specification, providing up to 800 Mbps of MAC throughput. The MxL3707 is backward interoperable with all prior versions of the MoCA standard.

The MxL3707 is cost optimized specifically for MoCA-to-Ethernet adapters by eliminating the need for an external processor to configure and maintain the IC.

Offered in an 8x8 mm QFN package, this single-chip IC features the smallest PCB footprint and the lowest power MoCA solution in the market.

CIG’s WF-802 Series MoCA-to-Ethernet adapter, a part of CIG’s HomeMesh™ Solution, provides high-performance capacity to connect devices at home over coax. In concert with other CIG products, WF-802 adapters provide users an easier way to extend their home network and get better home network coverage using the existing coaxial cables.

CIG’s WF-802 Series HomeMesh™ Solution provides the user with a total home networking solution with stable connections, low latency, seamless roaming, and high throughput that crosses multiple wireless and wireline media. In addition, CIG’s HomeMesh™ software platform and mobile app offer users a convenient and unified configuration and user experience for their pay-as-it-grows-based home network.
