MaxLinear and Zyxel Introduce Pair of MoCA 2.0 Bonded Products for Service Providers

  • Zyxel delivers end-to-end home networking solution with its MaxLinear-based MoCA-enabled routers and Wi-Fi adapters, offers up to 1.2Gbps throughput

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MaxLinear Inc. (NYSE: MXL), a leading provider of radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for cable and satellite broadband communications, the connected home, data center, metro, long-haul fiber networks and wireless infrastructure, today announced that its MxL3705 gigabit MoCA2.0™ bonded solution is being used in Zyxel’s EMG6765 router and WAP7205 Wi-Fi adapter.

As service providers offer gigabit broadband speeds to their subscribers, they need to ensure all that bandwidth is reliably distributed throughout the home. With MoCA 2.0 integrated into Zyxel’s EMG6765 router and WAP7205 Wi-Fi adapter, service providers can use already installed coax cables as a MoCA backbone to extend gigabit broadband to every corner of the home. Using MoCA as a wired backbone is the most reliable and cost effective way to deploy multiple Wi-Fi access points to ensure gigabit coverage and speed.

With Zyxel’s EMG6765 router, service providers can easily add a MoCA network to subscribers’ homes without having to change the existing customer premise equipment (CPE) modems. The WAP7205 MoCA-to-Wi-Fi extender can then be connected to any coax outlet to increase wireless coverage and performance throughout the home and keep customers satisfied.

“With our newest MoCA-enabled router and MoCA-to-Wi-Fi adapter, Zyxel is pleased to offer an end-to-end gigabit home networking solution for the broadband home of today and into the future,” said Jenny Lai, AVP of Zyxel Smart Living Business Unit. “Zyxel has a successful history of delivering CPE products to service providers and we see MaxLinear’s MoCA solutions as the next step toward fulfilling the needs of our customers for a fast and robust home network.”

“Zyxel’s lineup of MoCA products perfectly complements the needs of service providers who don’t want to change existing CPE modems,” said Will Torgerson, MaxLinear Vice President & General Manager of the Broadband Group. “As higher broadband speeds permeate the market, the need for a high-performance MoCA home network will also grow and we are delighted to see Zyxel is there to fulfill that need.”

MoCA Router and Wi-Fi Adapter Technical Details

Zyxel uses MaxLinear’s MxL3705 single-chip bonded MoCA 2.0 integrated circuit (IC), providing at least 800 Mbps of MAC throughput. The device is backward interoperable with all prior versions of the MoCA standard. The MxL3705 IC also supports 1.2 Gbps of throughput in proprietary mode over a full 16-node network when communicating with other MxL3705-based products.

The MxL3705 MoCA 2.0 channel-bonded solution is offered in an 8x8 mm QFN package that has the smallest PCB footprint and is the lowest power bonded solution in the market.

Zyxel’s MoCA-enabled router, the EMG6765 (Wi-Fi AC2200 MoCA Router), implements bonded MoCA 2.0, dual band Wi-Fi with 3x3 2.4GHz 802.11n and 4x4 5GHz 802.11ac wave 2 MU-MIMO technology. Bonded MoCA2.0 provides a gigabit wired backbone that enables customers to enjoy the fastest, most reliable wired and wireless connectivity possible, across the largest number of devices throughout the entire home.

The MoCA-to-Wi-Fi adapter, Zyxel’s WAP7205 (Wi-Fi AC1300 MoCA Extender), also supports bonded MoCA 2.0, dual band Wi-Fi with 2x2 2.4GHz 802.11n and 2x2 5GHz 802.11ac wave 2 MU-MIMO acting as supplemental Access Points. With integrated bonded MoCA 2.0, it’s the preferred solution for extending Wi-Fi networks to fill in dead zones by using existing coaxial wires in service provider homes.
