Jointly Funded Research and Development
From time to time, the Company enters into contracts for jointly funded research and development projects to develop technology that may be commercialized into a product in the future. As the Company may be required to repay all or a portion of the funds provided by the other parties under certain conditions, certain funds received from the other parties of $4.0 million have been deferred in other long-term liabilities. Additional amounts under the contracts are tied to certain milestones and will also be recorded as a long-term liability as payment due under such milestones are received. The Company de-recognizes the liabilities when the contingencies associated with the repayment conditions have been resolved. During the three and six months ended June 30, 2022, the Company recognized $0 and $3.8 million in previously deferred amounts from other parties due to resolution of such repayment conditions.
Other Matters
From time to time, the Company is subject to threats of litigation or actual litigation in the ordinary course of business, some of which may be material. The Company is not currently a party to any pending legal proceedings that, if determined adversely to the Company’s interests, would, in management's opinion, have a material effect on the Company’s financial position, results of operations, or cash flows or that would not be covered by the Company’s existing liability insurance. The results of any litigation cannot be predicted with certainty, and regardless of the outcome, litigation can have an adverse impact on the Company because of defense and settlement costs, diversion of management resources, and other factors.
